Alchemyic Artisan Unveils “The Ex-Wife of the Patriarchy” at Studios on the Park
Archetype No. 5 expands Sherry McGuire’s evolving 52 Archetypes series
Paso Robles, CA — Multimedia artist Sherry McGuire has unveiled a new work titled “The Ex-Wife of the Patriarchy,” the fifth release in her evolving 52 Archetypes series, currently on view at the Paso Robles Art Association gallery inside Studios on the Park as part of the exhibition Point of View (March 7 – April 29).
The 52 Archetypes project explores the identities women inherit, resist, and ultimately rewrite. Each work combines symbolic relics suspended within reconstructed vintage frames and preserved in custom-poured epoxy resin, forming a dimensional narrative composed of objects, memory, and voice.
Every archetype is accompanied by a written soliloquy spoken in the voice of the character, revealing the story behind the objects and the deeper meaning that lives quietly between them.
In this particular archetype, the tone is unmistakably sharp. “She doesn’t smash the patriarchy. She divorces it.”
Through satire and layered symbolism, The Ex-Wife of the Patriarchy portrays a figure who understands the systems around her well enough to leave them behind on her own terms.
“This work isn’t about fighting power,” says McGuire. “It’s about recognizing when it’s been misused. She sees the structure for what it is... and decides she no longer belongs inside it.”
The work is part of McGuire’s broader Alchemyic Artisan practice, which blends contemporary assemblage, embedded relics, and sculptural resin techniques to explore the tactile narratives of lived experience.
